It can sometimes be surprising when a situation or found objects can potentially present the seed for a painting to grow into its full composition. This red terracotta vase is most likely from Oaxaca, Mexico. We purchased it at a thrift store! To fill out the theme it took a while before I was able to envision the vase’s supporting elements. The heart shaped container is a wonderful clay piece my wife, Jocelyn, crafted. I had hoped for a specific colour harmony and I was pleased here as sometimes I find this comes along on its own as the painting stages develop. The scene has an intended ‘placed’ feeling which I believe supports the symbolism I was after.
